Overview
Recent increasing occurrence of disasters worldwide have happened at a large human cost and brought along severe socio-economic consequences for affected populations. From the original focus on natural hazards, the disaster theories have now expanded to include a broad range of human-induced disasters, like complex emergencies and crises, thus fitting the disaster and crisis management as an integral part of the humanitarian response.
The course will focus on presenting participants with a holistic approach to disaster and crisis management, focusing on pre-disaster preparedness and risk reduction, relief in the context of disaster, post disaster rehabilitation, reconstruction and recovery.
Training methodology
The course will provide a theoretical overview of essential elements of disaster management and will give participants an opportunity, through group work and discussions, to engage in an interdisciplinary analysis of the extent and effects of disaster and learn how to develop sound management plans.

By the end of the course the participants will:
