Our Team

RASIL is composed of three business Divisions: Business Development and Outreach, Training and Communications, and Research and Development.

1- BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

The division is headed by Mr. John Latham, who is also the lead expert on natural resources monitoring. Mr. Latham is the former Head of the Geospatial Unit of FAO with over 35 years of experience in the field of Geospatial Information and Natural Resources monitoring.

John led the operational development, application, technology transfer and capacity building programmes related to use of GIS and remotely sensed data for environmental and natural resources and agricultural monitoring and management programmes in more than 40 developing and developed countries.

During his tenure with UNFAO, John assumed the responsibility as UNFAO Project Coordinator of the Global Land Cover Network (GLCN), represented UNFAO to the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), and the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) including Group on Earth Observation for Global Agriculture Monitoring (GEOGLAM).

2- TRAINING AND COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

Mr.Sadig Elamin is RASIL General Manager and head of the Training and Communications division. Mr. Elamin has significant experience providing leadership innovating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and information management solutions. He actively promotes multidisciplinary approaches focused on advancing clients’ mandates.

With the United Nations, he has provided exemplary technical GIS and information management services in 15 countries. He has a strong understanding of humanitarian and development programmes and operational approaches employed by UN entities having worked closely with UNICEF, UNDP, UNFAO, UNHCR, WFP, IOM as well as OCHA.

Sadig has lectured worldwide on knowledge and information management in humanitarian response; delivering highly engaging and dynamic presentations in Ireland, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Cyprus, UAE, and the USA. Sadig Elamin holds a Master’s degree in Geo-Informatics from Linkoping University in Sweden, in addition to International Diploma in Humanitarian assistance from Fordham University in USA,  and a BSC in Mechanical Engineering from University of Khartoum, Sudan.

3- RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

Research and Development is undertaken through an association with CMCC and other spcialized academic institutes in the field of climate change impact and agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services and agor-meteorology.
