Overview
The mounting hostility and increasing number of violent attacks against the humanitarian workers, premises and assets emphasize the need to further promote and deliver safety and security training for all personnel carrying development and humanitarian missions in unstable and dangerous areas of the world. The core modules of this course include practical guidance on radio communications procedures, weapon, landmine and UXO awareness, travel and convoy security, hostage survival and cultural awareness. The course aims at ensuring that participants are able to identify and respond to direct and indirect threats and incidents, particularly in insecure and hostile field environments.
Training methodology
The training course will provide a theoretical background to managing safety and security in the field. This will be achieved by demonstrating real-life examples from current and past emergencies with help of audio-visual aids. The case scenarios will illustrate situations to which participants might be exposed when undertaking work in hostile environments. Importantly, the course will allow participants to gain practical experience in both managing their own security and responding to threats and incidents through interactive approach, involving participation in practical, real-life like scenarios.
