Overview
The ways in which needs are defined and prioritized have significant implications on the quality and effectiveness of a humanitarian response. Conducting accurate, effective and timely needs assessments is crucial in preparation and planning of humanitarian programmes and projects as they often form a solid basis for a coherent monitoring process.
The course aims to improve the effectiveness of personnel engaged in humanitarian relief by demonstrating good practice in needs assessment procedures, including frameworks and principles of rapid assessments.
Training methodology
The course will be delivered through a mix of theoretical and practical approach. Participants will be presented with methods and tools used in needs assessment processes in humanitarian emergencies. Through group work participants will be given a chance to apply their knowledge to real-life case scenarios. Participants will be expected to actively participate in group discussions.
